St. Cloud State University
Integrated Science and Engineering Laboratory Facility
St. Cloud, Minnesota

Completed in 2013, the Integrated Science and Engineering Laboratory Facility, better known as ISELF, is the final addition to St. Cloud State’s three-part science Initiative, an education upgrade project previously consisting of an addition to Wick Hall and a remodel to Brown Hall, which were completed in 2008 and 2010.

ISELF was designed to be an interdisciplinary, flexible laboratory space which will be used by engineers, chemists, scientists and biologists. The mechanical and electrical systems were designed for maximum flexibility in lab set up and operation. The mechanical system was designed with future capacity in mind and special attention was paid to the valving for easy maintenance. Similarly, the electrical systems have spare capacity circuits for future additional equipment.

The $44.8 million dollar facility includes a robotics lab, clean room, imaging center, offices, classrooms, business collaboration space and labs that contain flexible spaces, moveable benches and cabinetry. The 100,000 square foot building, intended to serve upper and graduate level science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medical technology and radiology classes, concludes the school’s science campus and also claims the largest single construction project to date, currency-wise, in the history of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU).
