Minneapolis, MN (January 18, 2018) – With a goal of continuing the firm’s legacy of innovation and thought leadership, Principals at LKPB Engineers, Inc. (LKPB) searched for a solution to instill and promote firm values, internally and externally. LKPB leadership decided a drastic change was key to carrying the nearly 50‐year‐old firm into the future. A new office space that matches LKPB’s culture, supports today’s work‐style, and allows LKPB project teams to better serve clients was a critical first step to future firm success.

From a 1970’s‐era building in St. Paul to an 8,430 rentable square foot contemporary open‐office in Minneapolis, LKPB’s new office represents the firm’s dedication to adopting new ideas, processes and technologies, while infusing a partnership mentality across project teams. The firm’s culture of forward thinking is front and center upon entry into LKPB’s lobby. Clean lines, floor‐to‐ceiling glass walls and two state‐of‐the‐art technology equipped main conference rooms greet guests. However, one thing is missing from LKPB’s visitor lobby, a front desk and receptionist. Utilization of a virtual receptionist was an intentional decision that streamlines the visitor check‐in process at LKPB. Instead of a person, guests are greeted with an IPad. Upon virtual check‐in, LKPB meeting hosts are notified via text message and email of their guests’ arrival. Elimination of a physical front desk not only saves in construction costs, but also provides opportunity for LKPB staff, formerly seated at a physical front desk, to focus on their roles.

As visitors progress through LKPB’s new office, their culture is evident through the nine big screen monitors and seven large collaboration tables placed throughout. Dual‐purpose furniture in community spaces as well as at each desk creates teaming opportunities and storage space for project plans and specs. Four technology equipped huddle rooms satisfy private meeting space needs. Each huddle room, named after a super‐hero lair, adds a fun twist and serves as a testament of the firms’ relaxed and fun culture. Who wouldn’t want to meet in a room named the Fortress of Solitude or Avengers Tower?

Every LKPB employee enjoys a sit/stand up desk and dual 27” computer monitors. However, the biggest change for employees is the communication flow between fellow co‐workers. LKPB’s new office space eliminates the former 5’5” high cubical walls that hindered collaboration and replaces them with mere 3’5” surrounds that opens sight lines, enhances communication and promotes a teaming mentality across projects.

Finally, regular happy hours hosted in LKPB’s community kitchen offers spectacular views of the downtown Minneapolis Skyline. The large kitchen island creates gathering space, while the café‐style and relaxed bench‐seating offer flexible work options.

Along with their new space, the firm is focused on growing their already strong portfolio in markets including, housing, hospitality, healthcare, education, higher education, workplace and mixed‐use.
